The Apple MacBook Air MMGF2LL/A is the newest model in a long line of laptops that continue to innovate the industry. This newest rendition features an Intel Core i5 processor, 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of SSD flash storage.
While this model lacks the retina display found in MacBook Pros, the 1440×900 pixel panel is certainly impressive in its own regard. Topped off with a 12-hour battery, this MacBook Air is perfect for students, mobile professionals and anyone who likes to travel.
Blazing Fast Core i5 Processor
Although this MacBook Air is extremely lightweight a portable, it certainly doesn’t lack any processing power. The Core i5 processor in this model runs at 1.6 GHz and can boost up to 2.7 GHz with 3 MB of L3 cache. The processor alone puts this laptop miles ahead of any netbook or Chromebook offering currently available. You get all of the power along with excellent battery life; it’s like you get to have your cake and eat it too!
8 GB of RAM
I would say that 8 GB of RAM is the new 4 GB of RAM if that makes any sense. Last year’s MacBook Air model had just 4 GB of ram which means this new version has double the RAM. If you’re not sure why this is important then just understand one thing: more RAM is going to make your system faster, even more so than a faster processor even could. This is especially true if you’re a multi-tasker who loves to open up dozens of tabs.
13.3 Inch Screen at 1440×900 Pixels
This MacBook Air is distinctly lacking in one way compared to the MacBook Pro: no retina display. It isn’t just this model, though. There are no MacBook Air laptops with retina displays. If you want retina you’ll need to check out a MacBook Pro.
With that being said, if you put this display side-by-side with a MacBook Pro with a retina display you might not even notice a difference. 1440×900 pixels is a higher resolution than 720p HD, although slightly lower than Full HD at 1080p. I really would have liked to have seen a Full HD display on this model, although it’s really not entirely necessary on such a small panel.
128 GB Flash Storage
If you’ve ever checked out any of my laptop reviews, you already know that I’m a HUGE fan of solid state drives. They’re faster and more reliable than traditional mechanical hard drives. If you’re used to a Windows 10 laptop running on a mechanical hard drive then you’re going to be absolutely blown away when you boot up OS X El Capitan on an SSD.
There’s really no comparison. Apps load extremely quickly from an SSD, minimizing lag and bottlenecks caused by traditional hard drive technology.
Portability to the Extreme
Just one more quick thing to mention in terms of features. This laptop has a battery that lasts up to 12 hours on a single charge. Not only is this laptop extremely compact and lightweight, it’s also powerful with a great battery. I’m not the biggest Apple fanboy in the world but I can definitely say that few laptops can touch the MacBook Air in terms of quality and portability.
