The ASUS C202SA-YS02 is a durable, rugged Chromebook that has built on the success of the previous ASUS Chromebook offerings. It is truly made for students and mobile professionals offering a reinforced nano-molded frame with rubberized edges to prevent damage from drops. Other features like a spill-resistant keyboard and strategically placed grip pads help prevent damage to your laptop from accidental drops and spills. The new Celeron N3060 processor and 4 GB of RAM give this laptop plenty of power to handle everyday tasks with flying colors.
Reinforced Rubber Edges
new ASUS C202 is definitely made to be durable and reliable. The entire casing is surrounded in reinforced rubber that helps prevent damage from everyday wear and tear. Their nano-molding technology ensures that all components are safe and secure in the event of a drop or just being jostled around in your backpack or carrying case.
Drop Testing
ASUS conducted their own in-house drop testing to prove the effectiveness of their reinforced case design. They claim that this laptop was the “best in class” among laptops with rubberized edges dropped from a height of 3.9 feet. I don’t know about you but I haven’t exactly seen many laptops with rubberized edges so I’m not sure what they had to compare this laptop to.
Either way, you can rest assured knowing that this laptop can really take a beating which makes it perfect for students, mobile professionals, and even children.
Get a Grip
ASUS has really thought of everything in terms of durability and damage prevention. This laptop features strategically placed grip strips that will prevent unnecessary drops and damage to your laptop. This is something that I literally have not seen anywhere else in the market. Most laptops have extremely slick, smooth surfaces that make them prone to accidental drops. I think other manufacturers need to take note of this, especially those offering accidental damage protection.
Spill Resistant Keyboard
Just another example of how well this laptop is made and how thoughtful the engineers behind it were. In almost any laptop you will find the most critical components directly below the keyboard. An accidental spill could easily damage your laptop in an instant. This C202 has a spill-resistant keyboard that can help prevent damage from spills. Now that’s what I call smart!
Intel Celeron N3060 Processor
Intel Celeron processors are made for mobile devices where low energy use is a priority. This laptop features Intel’s Celeron N3060 processor that runs at speeds up 2.48 GHz with 2M of cache. While this processor isn’t a powerhouse by any means, it’s definitely more than enough to handle the basic tasks that Chromebooks were designed to handle. You can go online, watch YouTube videos, NetFlix, handle office documents, and tasks and even play basic games without a hiccup.
4 GB DDR3 RAM
The overall trend in the laptop industry is pointing more and more towards 4 GB of RAM as a baseline standard every day. There are a bunch of Chromebooks released that have just 2 GB of RAM, although I would recommend staying away from these models. 2 GB is fine for the most basic tasks or having a limited number of tabs open, however, 4 GB is more suitable for multitasking and resource intensive apps. The price difference is so negligible that I could hardly recommend a 2 GB laptop to anyone at this point.
16GB Flash Storage
Flash storage is part of what makes Chromebooks so fast. This model has 16 GB of blazing fast SSD internal storage. This might not seem like a lot but you have to consider that Chromebooks are made to be online. You will also get 100 GB of Google Drive storage free for a year to supplement your internal storage. There you can archive your pictures, videos and other files you don’t need access to on a daily basis but don’t want to lose.
Office Support
Of course, most people want to know whether or not Chromebooks are compatible with Microsoft Office products. This particular laptop comes with QuickOffice editor embedded in the operating system meaning you can access it even when you’re offline. You can also use Google Docs when you’re online or subscribe to Microsoft’s Office Online if you’d rather use genuine Microsoft Office software. The only downside is that you cannot install Microsoft Office software on this laptop directly.
Anti-Glare HD Display
They market this display as “HD”, however, it’s important to note that it is NOT Full HD at 1920×1080 pixels. This display runs at 1366×768 pixels resolution which is just slightly higher than 720p HD (1280×720 pixels). Nonetheless, it is still plenty of pixels for a display of this size. The anti-glare matte finish ensures that you’ll be able to use this laptop outside or in other situations with direct light on the screen.
10 Hour Battery Life
The previous ASUS Chromebooks had a battery life closer to 12 hours, so this is somewhat of a step backward compared to those. Granted, 10 hours will probably get you through the day on a single charge, even if you’re a student carrying a full course load.
