Nowadays almost everyone is connected to the internet. World wide web has captured everyone in his web and Google spidermans (spider bots) are crawling everywhere on it.
Most of the users want to be connected all the time(Wait there is a but coming) yeah but what if you have a limited data package (I personally hate limited data) and most of your internet data get consumed (eaten, wasted) by Windows and other applications. Whenever you check your remaining data you see there is a chunk of data missing.
Reasons of Data Consumption:
The basic principle to solve a problem in everything is to know your problem? First you need to know what or which application is consuming your data?
Most of the time data is being consumed by background apps and software update.
Here is the list of 5 things which are mostly consuming your data.
1. Windows Update:
Microsoft Windows is one of the best operating system available in market and they update their OS almost every week and sending them to their users. Most of the users appreciate updates because they get new features and updated security(i never understood what kind of security Microsoft gives, but never mind) bla bla bla. But these updates also consume up to 1 GB per month(sometimes more than that). Now the Question is what if a person doesn’t have much data to spare so on updates. how to stop data consumption?
The answer is simple. Stop automatic updates in Windows. Dont worry its simple as it sounds. (Not really).
How to stop automatic Updates in Windows:
The process i am going to tell you works on almost every windows including Windows xp , Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and Windows 10 and also on new Windows build.

1 down 4 to go.
2. Stopping Google update and Mozilla firefox update:
I am not saying that stop updating your browser. I am just saying that you just stop auto-update of your browsers so they don’t update on their own. Auto-updates consumes more data than manual updates.
How to stop Mozilla Firefox and google chrome update:
For Firefox >
Step 1: Open Firefox.
Step 2: Press alt key, you will see drop down menus above in the window.
Step 3: Click on tools drop down and then go to options.
Step 4: You will see a a tabbed menu on the Left side. Go to “Advanced” tab.
Step 5: Now Go to the update tab in advanced menu.
Step 6: Select ” Never check for updates” in the checkbox menu.
Step 7: Now just go back and your settings will be saved.
Hurray. Updates of Firefox is now stopped.
Note: You can manually update your Firefox browser any time you want.
For Google Chrome >
Step 1: Open Google chrome browser.
Step 2: Now in the address bar where you usually put website address type this ‘about:plugins’.
Step 3: Now find the plugin called ‘google update’.
Step 4: Disable the google update plugin and save the setting by going back.
Now your google chrome updates are disabled.
3. Disable When Not In Use.
What if you are not using your internet and you don’t have to be connected. So why is your data connection is still active?
If you are not using your data connection than you can disconnect it.
Every time after using internet disconnect your connection. In this way you could save some bandwidth.
You can Disable your Internet connection by going into ‘Network and sharing center’.
4. YouTube, Daily Motion, vimeo etc
Most of us like to watch videos , listen new songs, watch movie trailer , tutorials , documentaries , reviews , funny and cooking videos.
Watching videos on video sharing websites like YouTube, Dailymotion, Vimeo etc is so much fun but also it is one of the biggest reasons of data consumption.
If you spend more than 30 minutes on these sites, it ill take more than 1gb of your precious data from you.
How to solve this?
I am not saying that you should stop watching videos, watch them but in low or medium quality.
If you want to save some data than watch your videos in 360p or 240p. This will save you more than 5000mb per month.
5. Torrent Downloaders.
If you are a to torrent user and you like to download movies, big softwares, games and their cracks etc from torrent than you should know that torrent is one of the biggest data eater.
How does torrent work?
Torrent download works as peer to peer connection. A user uploads a file to a torrent and than other user download that file In the meantime the file is being downloaded by other person it is also being uploaded this process is called seeding. The more people seed the more speed will be provided to the other downloaders. As you know that file is being uploaded by multiple computers and there is no fix server for the file so no one can put a copyright to the download file. Thats why torrent is the biggest piracy network.
So how does torrent consume more data than normal download?
The question is how does torrent consume more data than normal downloads. As i mentioned above while you are downloading from torrent , the torrent is constantly uploading same file from your computer . so if you download 1gb than you also uploaded 1gb. This process is called seeding. So in this process you lost 2gb of data. (Amazing! Hahaha)
How to save data while using torrent?
I am not saying that you stop using torrent. You can use it while saving your extra data. You just have to go through some settings in your torrent client e.g utorrent, bittorrent etc.
Step 1: Open utorrent .
Step 2: Goto options >> Preference >> Bandwidth
Step 3: Set Maximum Upload rate to 14.
Now you are done. and once your download is complete then you should stop the file for further seeding.
So that is all folks.
